I didn’t sleep any more that night. Dawn finally broke on an overcast day and the sky was still filled with dark clouds from the previous night’s storm. A new layer of snow covered the remnants of old snow. Looking out from my eighth-floor kitchen window, I stared around at the large open areas between the scattered apartment high-rise buildings. Off to the left was a huge children’s playground, and there I thought I could see blackish burnt places on the ground.

My imagination jumped to the possibility that a large spaceship may have landed there. I immediately dressed for the cold and went out to investigate. Unfortunately, close inspection revealed little proof of a spaceship, landing although there were unexplainable blackened spots where the ice had melted. It was bizarre, and it drew other people over to take a closer look. No one could explain it. The recent layer of snow could have easily covered other evidence of I don’t know what. It was all very strange and left me with an unsettled feeling.
